Charles "Chuck" Finley (Quick notes to get everyone familiar with his existence) - OOC Knowledge

Born Arnold Palmer on June 23, 2044 in Chicago.

Chuck's Aspects

Chuck's Diary

Charles "Chuck" Finley is a former member of a UCAS black operations team. He entered the military as soon as he could in order to avoid jail time for actions hostile to the interests of a megacorporation -- Ares Technology -- who he blamed (rightly) for his parents' death. After several years working on a not-so-covert strike team (they specialized more in smash-and-grab jobs, with the "and-grab" being optional), Chuck discovered that his commanding officer had stopped taking orders from the UCAS, and started taking them from megacorporations. While not terribly angered by this from a morality or loyalty standpoint (Chuck had recently been upgraded with some really fly cyber- and bio-ware), Chuck found out that the most recent job was financed by Ares Technology.

Chuck responded by introducing his former commanding officer to an abandoned warehouse, far from any functioning surveillance devices.

  • What are your character's personal goals?
    • Find a personality outside ending other's lives.
    • Maybe develop a hobby.
  • What sort of things does your character do in their spare time?
    • Experiment with hobbies
    • Develop a personality
    • Acquired a pet plant after a successful stint with a pet rock. He's working up to an ant farm.
  • Where has your character travelled?
    • Grew up in Chicago outside the Containment Zone
    • Trained outside Lexington, KY.
    • Travelled pretty much everywhere… and doesn't know all the places he's been.
  • What did your character do before working at the Motley Institute?
    • Hated Ares Technology.
    • Worked for the UCAS on a covert ops team.
    • Worked for Ares Technology on that same covert ops team.
    • Spent time discussing with his commanding officer his dislike of working for Ares Tech.
    • Worked briefly in housecleaning. Or at least warehouses-located-far-away-from-surveillance-devices cleaning.
    • Trying to get a hang on this "freelance" thing.

Rough timeline:

2044: Charles Finley is born Arnold Palmer in a suburb of Chicago.

2055: Mom and Dad Palmer are caught inside the Containment Zone when established.

2058: Ares explodes nuclear weapon in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer died inside the city limits of complications from  Strain III.

2058-2060: Arnold Palmer commits acts of vandalism, theft, property destruction… against Ares Technology's property.

2060: Arnold Palmer "chooses" to enlist in the UCAS Military rather than go to jail.

2061: Arnold graduates from basic training and is immediately chopped to special forces. He operates under the identity "Charles Finley," a black ops cover in use for the past fifty years by various individuals.

2061-2071: Arnold travels around the world on behalf of the UCAS, spreading love and kindness and happiness and unicorns and rainbow. And killing people.

206?-2071: Arnold travels around the world on behalf of Ares Technology, killing people. His commanding officer neglects to mention this change in management.

2071: Chuck finds out his commanding officer has been collaborating with his least favourite corp. He takes the news poorly.

2071: Chuck seeks new employment.

2072: Chuck gets a job offer from the Motley Institute.

Possible connections:

  • Did someone you knew, hated, or cared about die in a particularly violent fashion, and no one ever take credit for it? Yeah, that could have been him.
  • Have you done any jobs in Seattle in the last year or so? Did someone need killing?
  • Have you gone anywhere deemed remotely fascinating in the Seattle "scene" in the last year or so? Was someone there failing horribly to fit in?
  • Have you ever had to completely eliminate someone's identity from the Matrix? Was it Arnold?
  • Have you ever given a 5'11" man with sword hilts poking above his shoulder blades advice on what kind of plant he should purchase? If you recommended a gladiolus, your advice was terrible, and he's now working with a fern. If you spoke to him about a fern, he wants to buy you a beer, and offer to do a job for you gratis in thanks for the great plant advice. Three weeks, and still green!
